The New York City Teachers Retirement System is making the pledge with a task of the Clinton Global Initiative, began in 2005 by former President Bill Clinton, who made the statement on Thursday. The pension fund cash will go to jobs that influence transport, power, water, interactions and real estate in New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area. The jobs might consist of fixing real estate destroyed by the late October storm, which eliminated at least 140 individuals in 10 states however struck New York and New Jersey the hardest, swamping areas and knocking senseless power to some homeowners for weeks.

BANGKOK Oil prices rose Wednesday after a fierce storm caused havoc across the northeastern U.S. and was threatening to inflict more damage inland. Concerns about oil supplies pushed benchmark crude for December delivery up 78 cents to $86. 46 per barrel at late afternoon Bangkok time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 14 cents to finish at $85. 68 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price many international varieties of oil, rose 46 cents to $109. 54 per barrel. A hurricane that evolved into a winter superstorm, Sandy cut power to more than 8 million homes, shut down 70 percent of East Coast oil refineries and inflicted worse-than-expected damage in the New York metropolitan area. That area produces about 10 percent of U.S. economic output.

Outside of Manhattan, New York residents are still facing a power outage as temperatures drop and the region braces for another storm. NBC's Stephanie Gosk reports. By Miguel Llanos and Ian Johnston, NBC NewsA developing nor'easter might track farther offshore than earlier thought, but should still dump several inches of snow in the New York City area by Thursday morning and test Sandy recovery efforts with wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, the National Weather Service warned Tuesday. Some coastal flooding is also a possibility and one New Jersey town has already ordered evacuations. Follow @NBCNewsUS "Cold air will wedge itself along the I-95 corridor to bring some accumulating snows from Delaware to Maine," the weather service's prediction center stated. "A few inches are possible" in cities like New York, Boston and Philadelphia, it added.
