The story of John McAfee just keeps getting weirder. If you remember, the McAfee anti-virus software founder is on the lam, wanted for questioning in Belize for the shooting death of Gregory Faull, another expat who lived near him. McAfee claims he's innocent and the victim of a corrupt government who is trying to get him. Yesterday, the story took a surprising turn when Vice Magazine bragged that they had scooped everyone because they were "with John McAfee right now, suckers." Along with the short story, the magazine posted a picture taken with an iPhone, and as The Next Web explains the magazine simply forgot to scrub the picture of the location metadata included within. For a guy on the run, that's not great news. The Next Web tracked the GPS coordinates to a location in Guatemala near the Belize border.

Millions of families tried to adjust to life without modern conveniences Wednesday, two full days after Superstorm Sandy ripped through the Northeast and blacked out some of the nation's most densely populated cities and suburbs. Homes grew chilly without heat. Food spoiled in refrigerators. Televisions remained silent. And people everywhere scurried for a spot to charge their cell phones. By and large, Americans tried to make the best of a situation that was beyond their control while utilities struggled to restore power — a massive job they warned could last well into next week. Sandy's footprint was enormous, knocking down wires and rendering other critical equipment useless across a huge span of the country, from Virginia to Massachusetts and as far west as the Great Lakes. "It's unprecedented: fallen trees, debris, the roads, water, snow.

Throughout the worst of Hurricane Sandy, simply minutes prior to the storm will make landfall, lots of in the afflicted states heard a noise over the wind and the rain. It came from their smartphone. For some, it was a loud buzzing with an emergency alert image, discussing that they ought to take shelter. For others, it was in fact a female robotic voice, notifying them of an emergency. Those %%PRO6%% were what FEMA and the FCC call cordless emergency alerts or WEAs. They were created to alert people via their phones about three kinds of emergencies-- brewing threats ( consisting of extreme or severe weather condition ), AMBER alerts, and presidential alerts (alerts provided by the head of state ).
