On a scale of one to 10, you most likely think you're a seven. And you would not be alone. While it's impossible for a lot of people to be above average for a specific quality, people think they are much better than a lot of people in lots of sectors, from charitable behavior to work performance. The phenomenon, known as illusory superiority, is so stubbornly relentless that psychologists would be amazed if it didn't appear in their studies, stated David Dunning, a psychologist at Cornell who has studied the effect for many years. It occurs for lots of reasons: Others are too polite to state exactly what they truly think, incompetent people do not have the skills to analyze their abilities properly, and such self-delusions can actually safeguard people's mental health, Dunning informed LiveScience.

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
