In olden days, before the Star Trek holodeck and motion pictures like TRON and The Matrix, philosophers used to question whether life was but a dream. Nowadays they're more worried that reality could possibly be simply a computer simulation. Sure, that's not very likely. However you cannot rule out the possibility. Computer systems simulate all types of things, and some experts have seriously recommended that nature's supposedly rock-solid reality is really simply some smart alien teenager's science fair project. The majority of individuals respond to that recommendation with a shrug. Exactly what does it matter? You need to row, row, row your boat anyhow. As Gottfried Leibniz pointed out over three centuries ago, all that matters is that the globe acts real enough so that sound reasoning will not trick you.
